SYNOPSIS : When Ian Harding’s mother dies, he is left all alone in the world at the age of 26. Unable to understand basic human emotions, he takes the decision to end it all in a snowy forest clearing but through a bizarre chance encounter, he discovers the lifeless body of a schoolgirl. Something about her, and her suicide note, resonates deeply within him, and Ian decides to bring her body home. He sleeps peacefully by her side and for the first time his eyes are opened to the possibility of love and a reason to live. He buries her body under a cherry blossom tree at the end of his garden. Searching for an opportunity to experience the same emotions, Ian manipulates an encounter with Tina, a young suicidal housewife, whom he meets over the internet. Ian finds peace in her lifeless company and discovers a burgeoning understanding of the complexities of love. He slowly begins to engage with the outside world, until once again he is forced to bury her body deep below the cherry blossom tree. Ian then meets Naomi, a beautiful young woman whose son’s life was taken in a car crash…

SYNOPSIS : The Taking is a cinematic experience of light and sound. It’s a film made with balls and intellectual muscle. In this film you will discover horrific art told via grisly images and two tales of woe… The experience begins with Carl who seeks to murder his best friend and adulterous fiancé. Unexpectedly, he awakens in a wooded wasteland. He has no idea as to where he is or how he got there. A sinister family now holds him captive along with another victim named Jade. They’re subjected to arcane rituals and are left tied to a tree for several days. When Carl looks back on their grisly experience in the forest, he comes to the realization that they’re not just in the woods; rather, they are in a place where people go to fight the vices living inside of them. The losing of this fight is something far worse than death; it’s the utter damnation of one’s very soul.

SYNOPSIS : Lose Your Head is a psycho thriller about a Spanish party tourist who gets lost in Berlin. The film is inspired by the true story of a young Portuguese man who disappeared some years ago after a night at Berghain. Like thousands of other young tourists, Luis from Madrid arrives in Berlin to spend a carefree summer weekend. After a break-up, Berlin’s infamous club scene seems the ideal place to fuck the pain away, make new friends, and fall in love again. However, Luis’ resemblance to a young Greek student who had gone missing a few weeks ago gets him involved in a series of mysterious events. What starts out like a romantic adventure turns into a desperate chase through the streets as Luis gets more and more lost between paranoia and reality.

We are thrilled to announce the success of VANISHING WAVES that has recently won the Silver Melies 2012 for Best...

We are thrilled to announce the success of VANISHING WAVES that has recently won the Silver Melies 2012 for Best European Fantastic Film : In existence since 1996, the Méliès d’Or Award is a unique competition: it is the only competition organised between collaborating festivals in Europe. The competition is open to both features and short films.

The Méliès d’Or Competition for features is organised by all the affiliated members of the Federation. Each Competition cycle takes approximately one year and is organised in two stages.

In the first stage, each participating festival organises a Competition during its event, at the end of which a European film is awarded with a Méliès d’Argent. This film is automatically nominated to take part in the Méliès d’Or Competition.

Once all the affiliated members have awarded their own Méliès d’Argent, the next festival on the calendar organises the Méliès d’Or Competition and Ceremony. A jury is gathered, their task is to decide which of the Méliès d’Argent will be awarded with the Méliès d’Or.

The Méliès d’Or Competition for shorts is organised in the same way as the Competition for features, but is open to all the European members of the Federation. The films selected by each festival are called “Méliès d’Or Nominees”. The Méliès d’Or for shorts is awarded by the same jury as for the features.

With the organisation of a Méliès d’Or competition, the Federation intends to highlight the quality and originality of European cinema and to guide the renewal of the genre film on the entire continent, whether in Spain, France, the Scandinavian countries, England…

This year competition included, among others, the following feature films : Livide, Kill List, Citadel, Iron Sky…

VANISHING WAVES has already won 9 other awards, including the “Silver Melies” at the Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, “Best Picture”, “Best Director”, “Best Screenplay”, “Best Actress” (Jurga Jutaite) at the Fantasticfest (Austin – U.S.A.), the “Jury Special Mention” at the 47th Karlovy Vary Film festival, the “Jury Award” at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival, The “Jury Award” at the Palic International Film Festival and the “Emeric Pressburger Prize” at the 9th Jameson CineFest in Hungary.

VANISHING WAVES has been also selected for Montreal Word Cinema Film Festival (Official Selection), Helsinki Love & Anarchy (Official Selection) and the upcoming Lund Fantastic Film Festival (Competition), Busan IFF (Official Selection – Midnight Passion), Kaohsiung Taiwan IFF (Official Selection) and Sitges (Official Selection), Leeds international Fantastic Film Festival (Competition).

And some recent reviews :

Matt Goldberg // www.collider.com

The question of “love”—where it comes from and what it means—is incredibly difficult to untangle, but Kristina Buozyte‘s Vanishing Waves uses a simple but effective sci-fi premise to create a powerful, moving, challenging, and brilliant exploration of love’s origins and power to endure. (…) Buozyte has created a wonderful mix of genres with Vanishing Waves. It’s science fiction, it’s a mystery, and it’s a psychosexual drama. But above all, it’s a love story. It’s not a simple love story by any stretch, but it’s one that perfectly balances the emotional with the intellectual. Vanishing Waves raises some mind-bending questions regarding the nature of love, and it has no easy answers for the audience.

Brian Clark // www.twitchfilm.com

VANISHING WAVES is the Erotic Sci-Fi Drama of the Year! : Vanishing Waves is an exquisite sci-fi head trip in the vein of Solaris and 2001: A Space Odyssey, one which takes pleasure in ideas and exploration rather than cheap thrills. As a bonus, it’s also sexier than either of those movies. (…) But really, nearly all of the film’s imagery is beautifully composed, unique and haunting. (…) The other refreshing thing about the film is its willingness to engage with the real complexities of the sub consciousness and all the bizarre desires it manages to conjure up. To this end, the film is incredibly erotic, often in ways we haven’t seen before, and almost always with fascinating emotional subtext. (…) Whatever the case though, the striking imagery, meticulous pacing and fascinating themes at work here make Vanishing Waves a must-see for any serious fan of sci-fi, or for that matter, of psychological drama.

Eric Kohn // www.indiewire.com

(…) From “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” to “Inception,” contemporary movies have embraced this loopy fantasy by illustrating the improbable journey in exciting, magical terms. “Vanishing Waves,” the sophomore feature from Lithuanian director Kristina Buozyte, takes the opposite tact, depicting a tragic story of impossible love by hitting dark, elegiac notes without negating the inherent trippiness of the scenario. Both disturbingly surreal and hauntingly beautiful, “Vanishing Waves” finds that the human psyche is a severely haunted house. (…) Rarely does a final credits sequence arrive like such a harsh wakeup call.

The entire feature is available for private B2B screening on cinando, you can of course request us a screener DVD if you feel that the film can fit your editorial line. Do not hesitate to contact us for more details and availabilities for your domestic market.

With our warmest regards,
